Serene landscape isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Hong Kong, but that’s not to say there isn’t any. Plover Cove Reservoir is Hong Kong’s longest dam, the world’s first reservoir in the ocean, and the second largest reservoir in the territory. Its construction was prompted by a rapid population growth in the 1950s, which resulted in pressing demands for water. Hong Kong, being a mountainous city, had a lack of land to build a new reservoir, so one was built in the ocean.
Getting There
Take the green-top minibus number 20C, or bus number 75K from Tai Po Market MTR station. The bus ride takes approximately half an hour.
What To Do
Bike-riding and kite-flying are two of the most common activities. Bike rental shops are found near the bus terminus. The Tai Mei Tuk barbecue area is also just nearby and conveniently situated around the bus terminus.
