It’s hard to not be disappointed by the cafes in Singapore, after being used to what cafes in Seoul are like—open till late hours, free WiFi, plenty of seats and even power sockets for you to either charge your mobile phone or laptop.

Until B asked if I wanted to get some work done at Amber Ember and said that there’s free WiFi, it didn’t occur to me that free WiFi at cafes is not a given in Singapore. Clearly, it’s a sign that cafes in Singapore are not encouraging you to take up their space to get work done; cafes in Singapore are meant for coffee and Instagram worthy food. And that’s that. They’re mostly closed at 5PM, which also makes me wonder where people hang out after dinner.

Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised by the interior (and exterior) of Amber Ember, despite its ulu location. The fries was decent, although the ice chocolate leaves something to be desired.

I think what I liked best was how friendly the staff were, which totally made my day.
