Korean 101: 인싸 Insider

인싸 (inssa), short for 인사이더, is a Korean slang term derived from the English word “insider”. However, while “insider” in English refers to someone with exclusive information, 인싸 describes a socially active, popular, and well-connected person within a group or community. An 인싸 is always up-to-date with social events and trends—essentially, a fashionable and socially savvy individual.

A person who embodies the 인싸 (inssa) qualities to the fullest is known as 핵인싸 (haekinssa), with “haek” meaning “core”.

Here are a few examples of how 인싸 might be used in different contexts:

A: 민수는 진짜 인싸야. 매일 파티에 가고 소셜미디어도 활발해.
(Minsu is really an inssa. He goes to parties every day and is active on social media.)

A: 요즘 유행하는 것 알아?
(Do you know the latest trends?)

B: 응, 인싸니까!
(Yes, because I’m an inssa!)
