Two summers ago, the three of us with bad knees but love hiking decided to visit Bugaksan (북악산) and Inwangsan (인왕산). I didn’t make it up to the top of Inwangsan in the end because I wasn’t wearing proper hiking shoes and didn’t want to risk injuring my knees again, but the rest of the hike were steps and was manageable even though my knees hurt. For readers with bad knees, remember to wear proper hiking shoes and your knee guards!

Some other important things to note about hiking Bugaksan and Inwangsan is that the security is pretty tight here because it is close to the Blue House. It is fine to bring your DSLR or mirrorless cameras, but because the Blue House is just around the corner, there will be certain areas where you are not allowed to take photos of. Most importantly, don’t forget to bring your passport along as you will need to register your name before you can hike up Bugaksan. You’ll also need to come with a guardian if you’re not 18 and above.
